Missouri Green Schools

2017 US Green Ribbon Schools Honorees

2017 US DoE Green Ribbon Schools Honorees from Missouri

This year three Missouri Schools were honored for their accomplishments in
sustainability, health and environmental literacy
by the U.S. Department of Education's Green Ribbon Schools Program.

Maplewood Richmond Heights M.S., McKelvey Elementary, Parkway North H.S.

Welcome! Missouri Green Schools is the place for information on greening a school's footprint, encouraging healthy behaviors in a healthy building, and helping students learn to care about, understand and act for the environment.

Missouri has aligned its program with the U.S. Department of Education's Green Ribbon Schools (DoE GRS). Green Ribbon Schools seek to achieve progress in three Pillars:

  • Pillar I: Reduce environmental impact and costs. (Sustainability)
  • Pillar II: Improve the health and wellness of students and staff. (Health)
  • Pillar III: Provide effective environmental and sustainability education, incorporating STEM, civic skills and green career pathways. (Learning)

The Sustainability, Health and Learning pages lay out the expectations for a Missouri Green School along with resources for achieving those expectations.

Over the course of the next year we plan to set up different levels of achievement and incorporate fillable, password protected forms so schools can update and track their progess more easily.

Schools which complete key steps in all three areas will be eligible to apply to become Missouri nominees for next year's US DoE Green Ribbon Schools.
